چکیده

Averaging networks suppress the random mismatch between the comparators in flash A/D converters (ADCs), but an analytical understanding does not exist, nor a method for optimal design. This paper unifies various forms of offset averaging and derives the optimum by treating the averaging network as a spatial filter. At the optimum, the offsets in terms of LSB are minimized with almost no loss in comparator unity-gain bandwidth. This work leads to an easy-to-follow procedure to design efficient and fast CMOS flash-type ADCs.

A Pipelined 5-Msample/s 9-bit Analog-to-Digital Converter

T RADITIONAL designs of high-speed CMOS analogto-digital (A/D) converters have used parallel (flash) architectures [1]–[13]. While flash architectures usually yield the highest throughput rate, they tend to require large silicon. areas because of the many comparators required. An important objective is the realization of high-speed A/D converters in much less area than that required by flash co...

Investigating the Use of Games and Flash Cards in Teaching Spatial and Temporal Prepositions to Iranian Pre-Intermediate EFL Learners

One of the most problematic areas for teachers and learners in English classrooms is prepositions. Two types of prepositions in English are spatial (space) and temporal (time) prepositions. Prepositions are words linking two entities and thereby specifying the relation of the two. The main purpose of this study was to investigate the role of games and flash cards in learning place and time prep...

The Flash Lag Illusion Is a Consequence of Adaptive Spatial Filtering

In the flash-lag illusion (FLI), a flash aligned with a moving object appears to be offset. Previously, we presented evidence that information from ~80 ms after an event may be used by the visual system to attribute a position estimate to the time of the event (Eagleman & Sejnowski, Science, 2000a). The attributed position of the moving object is an interpolation of its previous positions, whic...

Analysis and Design of Adaptive Self-Trimming Technique for A/D Converters

A novel self-trimming algorithm for A/D converters [1,2] has been presented which continually trims thresholds in the flash A/D subconverters of two-stage and pipelined A/D converters. Roughly speaking, it trims thresholds up or down by small increments in such a way as to smooth out irregularities in the code density. This paper presents the mathematical analysis and design of the algorithm. T...

Understanding flash ADCs - AN810

Flash analog-to-digital converters, also known as parallel ADCs, are the fastest way to convert an analog signal to a digital signal. Flash ADCs are ideal for applications requiring very large bandwidth, but they consume more power than other ADC architectures and are generally limited to 8-bit resolution. This tutorial will discuss flash converters and compare them with other converter types. ...
